University Applications

I have been a little busy lately doing experiments and trying to get all the requested information to the 2 different graduate schools I'm applying for (University of Texas-Houston and University of North Texas). Unfortunately I was told that the University of Texas only does entrance in the fall semester for the medical physics program (which is the one that I applied for), so I had to defer my application until the fall semester of next year (August 2008). But, as far as the University of North Texas, I think that I may actually be able to get in this fall semester. As luck would have it, the physics department thought that my application was for the fall 2007 semester instead of spring 2008. I received an e-mail this morning from the secretary of the physics department saying that all my material was received and could be looked at for the fall 2007 semester (she said that the graduate school has me down on record as applying for spring 2008 and if that is a mistake to send an e-mail and ask them to correct it). So, I get the impression that I may have been able to gain entrance into the fall 2007 semester. If I were to have accepted that (or rather get accepted for fall 2007), then I would have to leave Japan at the end of this month (actually within a week and a half). Of course, that is not enough time to make preperations. I bet my professor at Nagoya University would take that new badly (A conversation that would go like, "Dr. Zaima, I decided to leave earlier than planned. I won't be able to go to the internship that you set up for me...Sorry." Yeah, that would turn out good). I had already told him that I wouldn't leave until August of next year or December of this year at the very earliest. But, when I think about it, maybe it would be a good option to go ahead and leave as early as possible. I don't really feel like I'm accomplishing much anyways. In fact, if there wern't so many things holding me back (preperations, internship, promises) I would go ahead and leave. I like the study environment at a U.S. university much more. I could be wrong, but I think I will be able to get into the University of North Texas for the spring 2008 semester (they say that it depends mostly on if they have any openings and the funding to support another student). One of my recommendations is from my academic advisor from Tarleton, who was the student of the head of the physics department at UNT. Of course, there is tha possibility that they will not have the funding or room to support another student (that basically means that they don't have anymore room for another TA) and if that's the case I will not be able to leave until August of next year (then I would regret not taking this falls entrance offer).
Other stuff that's going on...Another one of my friends is leaving next week, but one of my friends that has already left will be returning in about 2 weeks. I plan on traveling around Japan a little over the summer break and am currently trying to think of where I should go and the best way to get there (I'll have to ask my friend Celso who seems to have gone everywhere in Japan). I will probably start my travel at the end of this month or the very very beginning of next month (I need to be here most of next month to prepare for my internship). Also, in early December (I will probably still be here) one of my friends for Brazil (who returned home about half a year ago) will come back to Japan to visit all of us. That should be pretty fun. There is a basketball tournament very soon (of course I plan on playing). I have also been trying to get my arm back into shape for baseball (but finding someone around here that can catch at the speed that I throw is difficult). Most of my friends have never played baseball.
Other than that, nothing else going on at the moment. I will probably make my next article in a week or so. Anyways, see ya'll around.
